I trained in Fine Art at Kingston in the early sixties. After numerous exhibitions, both solo and mixed, my work is in many collections.

Ro Croxford Rogers

Living on the western edge of Wales, my love of the coastline is central to my work. Observations and experiences within that landscape, a meeting place between land and sea, provide a source of ideas, which are re-worked in the studio. Largely abstract, with elements of figuration, the paintings emerge from an intuitive enquiry into the physicality of materials. The process of making - layering, concealing, revealing, eroding - reflects the Earth’s elemental processes; providing the interface with which to translate subtle connections between the outer physical landscape and the inner mindscape. Based in Goodwick, Ro is showing at Phillipa Sibert’s studio for this event.

Kathy Thomson

My paintings and drawings are inspired by the landscapes of Pembrokeshire, Ireland, Cornwall, and the South Downs. Rather than record a picturesque or particular view, I seek to make expressive and evocative interpretations of places I have seen and explored. I work with a variety of media and surfaces.

1. From Cardigan, follow the A487 towards Newport. A couple of miles from Newport, turn left opposite the Nevern turning, signposted Cilgwyn and Cwm Gwaun. Follow this road for approximately 1.5 miles, passing Ty Rhos Trees and then Caersalem Chapel on the left. Awel Ingli is a cream painted chalet bungalow on the right, a few hundred metres further on from the Chapel at the top of a narrow lane. Turn onto the driveway in front of the house to park. NB SatNav will take you as far as the Chapel. 2. From Fishguard and Newport, turn right off the A487 just as you leave Newport, a little further on from the Llys Meddyg Hotel. The narrow lane is signposted Cilgwyn and Cwm Gwaun. Bear left at the top of the lane at a T-junction and follow this road for approximately 2 miles. Pass the Candle Centre on your right and turn immediately left over the bridge just beyond the Candle Centre. Awel Ingli is at the top of this narrow lane on the right. I make stoneware pots on a momentum kick wheel which I prefer for its quiet, slower pace. For decoration I layer dark and white slips in simple brush strokes, create patterns with stamps or carve into the pot surface. I leave my pots partially unglazed to show the warm colours created by the path of flame. My pots are raw glazed and once fired in a wood fired kiln.
