Anastasia Sevcova

Anastasia is a landscape painter based in the coastal village of Moylegrove, Pembrokeshire. She studied at the Putney School of Art and Design, where she received a Diploma in Fine Art in 2015. Originally from Latvia, she spent her formative years in London before settling in West Wales, where the landscape has become central to her practice. Her work is rooted in direct observation and a sustained engagement with place. Much of her practice focuses on the Welsh coastline, where land and the sea meet, collide, and continually reshape one another. These liminal environments recur throughout her paintings, offering a rich field for exploring movement, instability, and transformation. Anastasia is drawn to the physical and emotional intensity of these spaces and seeks to translate their energy through bold lines, rhythmic mark-making, and luminous colour. Working predominantly en plein air, she allows weather, light, and shifting conditions to inform her process. Wind, rain, and changing tides are not obstacles but active collaborators, introducing unpredictability and immediacy into the work. Nature functions not only as subject matter but as a grounding presence — both a refuge and a mirror for inner states. Her practice is underpinned by a quiet spiritual connection to landscape and a sensitivity to its rhythms. Alongside coastal work, her current practice explores forests and gardens as spaces where structure and growth coexist with wildness. These environments allow her to examine the balance between chaos and beauty within natural systems, as well as the tension between control and organic development. Dense vegetation, entanglement, and layered forms have become increasingly important elements in her recent work. Anastasia works across ink, watercolour, oil, and mixed media, often combining fluidity with structure to evoke the lived experience of being within a place rather than simply observing it.
